Art Projects:

WEEK 1 - RENAISSANCE PERSPECTIVE COLLAGE

Participants will learn one-point perspective by recreating the Temple of Solomon which was featured on the walls of the Sistine Chapel. The Renaissance painting Christ Giving the Keys to St. Peter by Perugino was among some paintings of this time that showed space and perspective giving a realistic appearance. Emphasis will be on space, line, one-point linear perspective, balance and symmetry.

WEEK 2 - MOLA TEXTILE INSPIRED PASTELS

Participants will use oil pastel to recreate the intricate Mola designs by the Kuna women of Panama. These sewn applique textiles represent animals, plants, geometric shapes and more to share the stories of their ancestors. Emphasis will be on shape, line variation, colour, positive/negative space, design, pattern.

WEEK 3 - KANDINSKY INSPIRED LANDSCAPE

Participants will have an opportunity to create a landscape painting inspired by Kandinsky’s Concentric Circles. Emphasis will be on background, foreground, colour blending, creating distance with colour and size.

WEEK 4 - FALLING FOR FORESHORTENING

Participants will learn about the concept of foreshortening through drawing a picture of themselves by tracing their hands and feet. By drawing their arms, head and body they will create the illusion that the body is further away than the hands and feet. Emphasis will be on distance, size created by distance and dimension of drawing on two-dimensional surface.
