Art Projects:

WEEK 1 - GYOTAKU JAPANESE PRINTING

You will learn about the traditional art of Japanese Gyotaku printmaking – Gyo meaning “fish” and taku meaning “rubbing”.  Emphasis will be on designing multiple fish prints and combining them with a pastel illustration to create a mixed media piece of art. The results will be an exotic aquatic mixed media creature. Frame it!

WEEK 2 - WILD KINGDOM PATTERNED PRINT AND WATERCOLOUR PAINTINGS

You are on a wild Safari Adventure! Discover nature inspired relief prints and incorporate a watercolour wash background. Witness the beauty of the natural stunning patterns in these wild animals. Learn what constitutes camouflage, mixed media art, pattern, repetition, warm and cool colours, focal point, and colour contrast. Roar!!

WEEK 3 - FLY BEYOND BORDERS ILLUSTRATION

Students will create an imaginary landscape set in grey where a flying creature is inspired to migrate where colour thrives. Emphasis will be on contrast of grey tones and colour, value, movement, focal point.

WEEK 4 - NEGATIVE PAINTING STILL LIFE

Students will learn about positive and negative space and how it can be used to create a successful composition in a painting. Emphasis will be on using negative painting to establish the subject of their painting by painting around their object.
