Art Projects:

WEEK 1 - CITYSCAPE “SERIES” ART CARDS

Students will learn how to create a “series” of handmade art cards using foam printing techniques combined with watercolour painting. By hand carving architectural features on multiple imaginary buildings you will create a dynamic skyline effect. Experiment with line variation, repetition of printed patterns, horizon lines and watercolour washes. These Art Cards are great gift ideas and are destined to become family heirlooms.

WEEK 2 - “IDEAL MINIATURE ENVIRONMENT” WATERCOLOUR PAINTING

Imagine if you were very tiny and your whole world was inside a jar? What would it look and feel like? Students will create an ideal imaginary environment contained inside a jar. What might you see outside through your jar ‘window’? You will also create an opposing exterior landscape outside of their container. For example Night vs day, water vs land. This session will explore imagination, line variation, watercolour layering and washes, and composition.

WEEK 3 - TIN FOIL RELIEF SCULPTURE

Students will learn all about 2-D relief sculpture in contrast to 3-D sculpture. Transform easy cardboard shapes into an incredible artscape. Layer shapes to build different heights. Make an imaginary creature, animal, seascape or landscape. Then cover it with tin foil, emboss with hand drawn designs and create a patina effect by painting with India ink and burnishing. Amazing results from household materials.

Week 4 - CLAY COIL BOWLS

Clay! Everybody’s favourite session. You will learn about the history of clay coil pots and their function. We will experiment with the three S’s: slip, score and squish to attach two pieces of clay together. Design and build your bowl using a variety of clay coil techniques: small spheres, spirals, single layers, folding, fold back, shaped spirals, arches, twists. Voila! Your very own vessel and all the skills you need for making clay sculpture.
