Art Jam age 8-13 years.

Dates: Saturdays from Oct 21 - Nov 11

Time: 1:00pm -3:00pm

Location: 110 Hurontario Street, Collingwood (above National Bank)

Art Projects:

Week 1- KILN FIRED CLAY JEWELLERY

Students will learn how to create personalized clay jewellery with stoneware clay, different types of clay and their uses and how to “fire” clay in a kiln. Emphasis will be on proper clay hand building techniques including how to create a clay pendant, bead and tube bail pendant.

Week 2- MYLAR MANDALA “SUN CATCHERS”

Students will learn about radial design (circle, pie, quadrant); and simple shapes/symbols and how they are used throughout history to convey a message. Ex. pictograms, letters, contemporary symbols. Emphasis will be on pattern, repetition and painting a mandala on frosted mylar using personalized symbols that represent themselves.

Week 3- “CLAY” TILE PRINTS

Artists will learn about lino-cut printmaking and the importance of design in defining cultural iconic artistic styles including clay tile designs from around the world. Emphasis will be on pattern, repetition and symmetry to create a larger “puzzle” like printed design (see samples below).

Week 4-NEGATIVE PAINTING

Students will learn about positive and negative space and how it can be used to create a successful composition in a painting. Emphasis will be on using negative painting to establish the subject of their painting by painting around their object (see samples below).
